Lifeline Changes Impact on Low Income Families

Lifeline is a program to help with low income individuals and families to receive basic telephone service. This was designed back in the ‘80’s and is part of the USF or Universal Service Fund Program. There is straight to the point benefits and clear cut tasks that is the main plan of the program. The National Broadband assist all Americans to have equal access to the internet.

But, now fast forward to a new century. Times have changed because of a thing called the Internet. So, DSL and Broadband uses the telephone lines so people can receive Internet service along with telephone services. This is a bundled package to help save money. So, there now is going to be a USF reform.

The FCC is getting involved with Lifeline to help low income families and individuals. More and more schools everyday have Internet services and children have to come home and do research on the Internet to do their homework. There are also a number of other reasons why people need to have the Internet. Seniors that are alone can have something to do and talk to families for example.

Broadcast Stations To Terminate Analog Broadcast Tuesday

Congress earlier this month passed the DT Delay Bill, pushing the controversial date back to June 12, 2009.

This was to support the millions of American unprepared for the switch from analog to digital television viewing. However, on Tuesday, February 17, 2009, 220 full-power television stations analog signal will end before this date as well as 421 stations terminating their analog signals tonight at 11:59pm.

The impact to the underserved communities is yet to be seen. Our non-profit, the Urban Progressive Foundation has been tirelessly going out to the local communities to educate, train and install residents’ digital converter boxes.

DeeNice Rhodes, Executive Director of The Urban Progressive Foundation, states that their goal is to assist those in need so they will not be left in the dark. For the last several months it has been well noted at our non profit organization that our country would not be ready to the transition to Digital Television.

The $40 off government coupons have run out. Accept for the close to 14 million expired coupons which totals apx. @560,000,000. Wow that's a lot of loot!!
